I've been torn away from the 'I-haven't-been-writing-much-because-the-NBA-playoffs-are-in-full-swing' desk for five minutes to let you all know that LeBron James is the NBA's MVP. Even Shaq agrees.
Does this mean those who knock him as being over-hyped and over-priced will now shut up? Probably not. But I can take comfort that he's got the gong in half the time it took Kobe Bryant. Oh, and that the Cavaliers are going to go through post-season undefeated this year [yes, I am putting my head on THAT chopping block].
All of the subtle ribbing from people and claims he is a cheat mean nothing to me now, given that he received 109 of the 121 possible first-round picks for MVP, and the total amount of voting points for him was 1, 172.
Congratulations from Godzone, LeBron [Now just come and play for the Breakers during the off-season].
Underway at the moment in the NBA playoffs are Celtics v Bulls, currently in double OT, and Cavaliers v Pistons, with the Magic playing the 76ers later today and the Trail Blazers squaring up to the Rockets. Live Scoring here.
Kobe has fired a shot back at LeBron, possibly not realising that all the MVP picks have been sent in already. In yesterday's match he was absolutely dominant, scoring 38 points in 39 minutes - three times as many as the next hights Laker and just under 1 point per minute.
Meanwhile, LeBron is continuing to just sit back and enjoy himself, doing things like this:
If you don't get it, it's a parody of this. C'mon, read more!
Here's the NBA's trailer for this year's playoffs. Just ignore the annoying un-talented hack musician singing the song.
Meanwhile, in result-related news, the Cavs kicked off the playoffs by stomping all over the Pistons and the Bulls 'upset' the Celtics [it wasn't that big of an upset really] in OT. I'm sitting at work watching the Lakers v Jazz game on live scoring and seeing things like this are making it just that much easier to predict that my man LeBron is going to be this year's MVP. Even if this weekend's games don't count for the regular season, it's still relevant.
Of course, I could post up a whole bunch of articles proclaiming LeBron's genius... But I won't. Or will I?
Maybe I'll just let shots like this do the talking.
The NZ Herald is today reporting that Michael Jordan will be inducted into Basketball's Hall of Fame. Anyone surprised? Anyone? No? Here's a video by DominoPro, a friend of AfroMaori [who did the great 'Rugby v Gridiron' videos which have since been ravaged by corporations].
And if you're in the mood for more greatness, check out 10 Ridiculous LeBron dunks. My favourite is the first one, because it's just insane.
Um so I was gonna save this until the next update, but I think it deserves its own entry. If you really want an excuse, I guess it could be the Cav's 79 - 73 win over the Pistons on Tuesday - the lowest score for Cleveland since their February 28 loss to Houston.
And LeBron made up 25 of those 79 points.
No wonder this website - the inspiration for this post - has been set up [tip: turn off the music - top right] and buildings in his native Akron are to be lit up in lights with the letters 'MVP'. Oh, and that bloggers are writing stuff like this.

Meanwhile, Kobe isn't doing much at all, but this April Fools story does seem oddly realistic.
It's been a while. Much NBA stuff has probably happened since the last KoBron post, but it hasn't been blogged about because of some stupid thing called 'March Madness'. But finally 60 Minutes in the US pulled finger and ran a story on The King. You can find the video and transcript here and then comment on whether The King is crazy or not here as well as read my comment about it, although it's probably pretty obvious already.
Down to the facts now though: The Cav's are leading the East with a 60-13 record. Orlando have snuck up out of nowhere and taken second with a 54-18 record over the Celtics 56-19. The Lakers top the West on 58 - 15 over San Antonio who are on 48 - 25 and Denver and Portland, tied for third, on 48-26. Most teams have 9 matches left, so on that basis the Lakers have basically got the West locked down. The Cav's needa win their next three to be safe.
Which makes it all the better that at this stage in the NBA the players are still finding time to goof off and enjoy themselves. Well, unless you're Kobe. Then it's just the fans who goof off about you.
LeBron James was on fire on Saturday, scoring [just] more than half of his Cavaliers' 111 points in their win over the Bucks. See it here:
Meanwhile, the Lakers struggled past the Hornets, who put on a 32-19 point fourth quarter to send the game into OT, which the Lakers eventually won.
The NBA All-Star Weekend was held while I was away and I saved my write up until I returned from holiday! Fun!
One of the big stories was the Western conference's win over the East in the All-Star game, even though [in my eyes at least] the East had a better team on paper. The intro's were cool though:
Sigh. When will people understand that LeBron is The King? And that the normal rules, both in
life, and in basketball, don't apply to him.
LeBron is being picked on by the sporting media for saying he didn't travel, he took a "crab dribble".
Basically, he is saying he took a hesitation dribble, before picking up the ball, and taking two steps to the basket. But Oh noes! A referee had the audacity to call him for travelling.
The NBA rules on travelling are (like all their rules) a little different to the rest of the world's, but what it still comes down to is that you can't take three steps.
So, let's take a look at the video, shall we?
I don't know about you, but I count three steps. Hmm, maybe he is human after all?
